Tonight: Bridge dedication, financial reports on Menlo Park council agenda

With a groundswell of community support behind the request, the Menlo Park council tonight (Feb. 11) will consider whether to rename a bridge in memory of Mike Harding, a staunch advocate for bicyclists and pedestrians throughout San Mateo County.

Mr. Harding, 74, died in December. He served on the city's bicycle commission, the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition and the San Mateo County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, typically commuting to meetings and work by bike.

The San Mateo Drive Bike Bridge, which crosses the San Francisquito Creek, is jointly owned by Menlo Park and Palo Alto. Both cities would have to agree to rename it.

The council will also consider whether to seek consultants to update the general plan as well as the M-2 industrial district on the east side of Menlo Park, and receive updates on the city's economic status.

Tonight's meeting starts at 7 p.m. in council chambers at the Civic Center at 701 Laurel St. Click here to review the agenda. Watch the meeting live online via the city's website.
