Office Hours with Catherine Carlton

51st annual Kings Mountain Art Fair
More than 135 juried artists will come together for this art fair in the redwoods above Woodside. Proceeds from the event will benefit Kings Mountain's volunteer fire brigade and elementary school. Aug. 30-Sept. 1, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Free admission. Kings Mountain Firehouse and Community Center, 13889 Skyline Blvd., Woodside.

'Containers of Community' closing celebration
The Palo Alto Art Center will hold a closing celebration for artist in residence Ehren Tool's exhibit, "Containers of Community." Tool will give out to veterans and community members the hundreds of ceramic cups with images exploring the experience of war, which he made at the center. At 3 p.m., Tool and other veteran artists will take part in a panel discussion about the place of art in their lives. Sept. 7, noon-4 p.m. Free. Palo Alto Art Center, 1313 Newell Road, Palo Alto.

43rd Mountain View Art & Wine Festival

At this Book Swap event at Kepler's, attendees will hear from Natalie Baszile about her book "Queen Sugar," go home with a recommended book as well as a free Advanced Reader's Edition of a book from Kepler's, receive book suggestions, and enjoy food and drink. International Day of Peace Vigil
Multifaith Voices for Peace and Justice will hold a candlelight vigil to mark the International Day of Peace (Sept. 21) and begin Campaign Nonviolence, a national week of action. The event will include singing, readings and prayer from different traditions. Everyone is welcome. Other events are scheduled for the following week. Sept. 20, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Free. Thich Nhat Hanh talks: Second two screenings
There will be a free series of weekly public showings of DVDS of recent talks by Thich Nhat Hanh, a Vietnamese Zen master, on "Living and Dying." The second two DVDS will be shown on Tuesdays.
