Poetry and music slam with Marshall Davis Jones
Youth Speaks Out will hold a a youth poetry and music slam at Palo Alto High School, featuring the recognized spoken word poet Marshall Davis Jones and a number of student performers. Those interested in attending can register online. Jan. 23, 5-7 p.m. Free for local high school students; $25 adult. Palo Alto High School, Haymarket Theatre, 50 Embarcadero Road, Palo Alto .

Teen Winter Book Club
The Menlo Park Library's book club program for ages 12 to 18 will meet this winter to vote for which book the club will read. Attendees are encouraged to bring book suggestions to the first meeting. Not Your Mother's Book Club will host young adult author Rachel Hartman in celebration of the paperback release of her work of fantasy "Seraphina," in which the titular heroine struggles to keep a deep secret. Feb. 2, 7 p.m. Free Books Inc., 74 Town & Country Village, Palo Alto.

Author Marissa Meyer on 'Fairest'
Young adult author Marissa Meyer will attend a special Lunar Ball at Kepler's Books, where she will share and sign her newest book "Fairest," the prequel to her series The Lunar Chronicles. There will also be a costume contest, activities, giveaways and light refreshments. Feb. 3, 7 p.m. $15 general. Kepler's Books, 1010 El Camino Real, Menlo Park.

Teen Night: Potluck & Recipe Exchange
The Menlo Park Library will hold a potluck event for teens ages 12 to 18, where they can share their dishes and recipes with others.
